My friends call me Alley…
This space is where I share my work, my passion for storytelling, my creative process, and all things that inspire me day to day. I hope this space encourages you to connect with art in your own life and the art makers around you.
Alison Wong began her career in opera as a singer and discovered her passion for directing early on. Upon graduation from the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University, she was chosen to complete the Stage Direction Fellowship at the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy in 2009 and 2010. As an assistant director she has worked professionally in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, the United States, and Canada. In Winter 2015, she toured with Nederlandse Reisopera as Assistant Director on a new production of Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles. She then returned to Toronto to direct Beatrice and Benedict with MYOpera, where she is a founding member and was the resident stage director for its first five seasons. Her recent theatre work includes assistant directing A Line in the Sand with Factory Theatre. Other recent credits include Associate Director for The Bremen Town Musicians with the Canadian Opera Company, directing Butterfly for Academia Europa Dell’Opera in Lucca, Italy, Hänsel und Gretel for MYOpera, and performing the role of Yniold in Pelléas et Mélisande with Opera aan Zee in Noordwijk, Netherlands. She loves working with singers to bring out their best performances and has had the pleasure of working with international artists such as Sylvia McNair, Franco Fagioli, and Kishani Jayasinghe.
She is also the Artistic Producer of b current, a theatre company in Toronto dedicated to developing new Canadian theatre by artists of colour, and currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary.
