ON APRIL’S FOOL | BEST SELF
Saturday April 1, 2017
Happy April 1st. I’m on a journey this month to re-centre my work and my creative practice. It’s been a whirlwind start to 2017, going across Canada and then to India with a touring production at the same time as transitioning out of my role as Artistic Producer at b current and getting ready for my next chapter. I feel like I’ve done enough multi-tasking for a lifetime.
I spent a lot of time last year figuring out what I wanted to do at the end of my contract, what direction I want to head in with my work next, and the number one thing that kept coming up was focus and time. Basically the opposite of multi-tasking. So April is going to be a month of building up a best version of myself that gives time to the projects I want to do, works with the people who inspire me, and focuses on the goals I have. Towards making more fulfilling and impactful art. Being a young and under-resourced and overworked art-maker isn’t cute. No more foolishness. I believe there’s a better way and I’m on a mission to find it.
The writing was literally on the wall for me while I was out on a coffee run. So I had to share. Stay tuned.
